Robot Mural

"I used art to create possibilities and people to turn those possibilities into reality." -Yvonne Shortt

The Robot Mural was painted behind a school in Queens with the participation of the community, the Mayor's office, NYC Service, and P.S. 139. Over 120 residents came out to paint the wall (1 city block long) of a school playground on a hot August afternoon. This project was done to help increase community participation in what was going on in the schoolyard.

It was the first step in establishing what would result in a new garden for the school and a schoolyard that would benefit from daffodil plantings, new trees, and a new playground paid for by Council Member Koslowtiz. What's more, the mural was featured in a PSA that aired in All NYC markets (including CBS, NBC,ABC, and screens in cabs) to promote volunteering in one's own community.
